24. South McAlester Capital, February 17, 1898: "Message of R.M. Harris" re: a treaty between the United States and the Choctaw Nation which would change tribal organization and allotment. This treaty was approved by the Chickasaw legislature. The treaty was put to a vote of the people, who rejected it. Other government matters are also discussed. 25. Tahlequah Arrow, February 19, 1898: "Editorial on Message of R.M. Harris" the vote on the treaty referred to above. 26. South McAlester Capital, July 21, 1898: "Editorial on R.M. Harris" who appealed 87 citizenship cases from the Court of Appeals of Indian Territory to the Supreme Court of the United States. These cases were rejected by the Chickasaws and contested as being illegal. 27. Marietta Monitor, August 5, 1898: "Proclamation Signed by R.M. Harris" of a special election to vote on the ratification of an agreement made between the Choctaws and Chickasaws. 28. Indian Citizen, September 1, 1898: "Proclamation of R.M. Harris" noting the ratification of the agreement between the Choctaws and Chickasaws by a majority of the votes cast by members of both tribes. 29. Indian Citizen, September 15, 1898: "Farewell Message of Governor R.M. Harris" to the Chickasaw legislature before retiring as governor. 30. Purcell Register, October 13, 1898: "Editorial on R.M. Harris" re: his statements on the transference of citizenship from one tribe to another and how people will avoid it. 31. Purcell Register, March 31, 1899: "An Interview with R.M. Harris" re: what the Dawes Commission had done toward settling appealed cases during a session attended by Harris. 32. South McAlester Capital, May 17, 1900: "News Item of R.M. Harris" re: his nomination by the Chickasaw Progressive Party for governor. 33. Indian Territory by D.C. Gideon, pages 648-649, containing a brief biographical sketch of Harris. 34. Mannsville News, July 1, 1904: "Editorial on R.M. Harris" regarding injuries he received when thrown from a horse. 35. Marietta Monitor, October 27, 1905: "Editorial on R.M. Harris" noting the award to the Harris Granite Company for the second best exhibition of granite at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition held in St. Louis. 36. Johnston County Capital Democrat, November 10, 1927: "News Item of R.M. Harris" re: a stroke suffered by Harris.
