Two letters from James G. Johnson to John A. Winney, July 29 and October 25, 1895; both deal with claims by the Cayugas against the state of New York and the U.S.; also complications of their claims because of the Canadian band of Cayugas. 4. Five letters from J.S. and Burdette Whipple to D.A. Harvey, Oct. 8, 1911, March 18, 21, 31, 1913, and April 22, 1913; all letters concern a claim by the Cayugas against the state of New York and the Whipple's efforts to obtain fair payment. 5. Two copies of a letter from William Zimmerman, Jr., Asst. Comm. of Indian Affairs, to Moses Crow, Oct. 10, 1933; re: claims by the Cayugas against the state of New York. 6. Two letters from Grover C. Splitlog (Chief of Cayugas) to Charles E. Grounds, January 5 and March 3, 1953; re: a disputed claim between the Senecas and Cayugas and the necessity of calling a tribal meeting to discuss the issue. 7. Four letters from Grover C. Spitlog (Chief of Cayugas) to Enola Shumate, January 15, February 14, 27, and March 3; re: claims against the St. Lawrence Power Company and payments to the various bands of Cayugas. Refers to the fact that "Whipple and Whipple" won the original case-- see folder 4 of this collection. 8. Letter from Mrs. Tommie Harjo (Chairman of the Cayuga's Business Committee) to enroll Shumate, March 17, 1953; re: helping the Cayugas locate a piece of evidence to help them prove a claim.
