Harjo, Lochar (d. 1879) Printed materials 1875-1879 5 items
Indian chief. Typescripts of newspaper articles (1875-1879) of Harjo's inaugural speech as principal chief of the Creeks, on governmental affairs during his administration, and, subsequently, on his impeachment.
Folder:
1. Message of Lochar Harjo, Principal Chief of the Creeks, to the Houses of Warriors and Kings, December 6, 1875 (typescript).
2. Indian Journal--December 7, 1876: "Message of Lochar Harjo" to the Houses of Warriors and Kings (typescript).
3. Indian Journal--December 21, 1876: "Impeachment of Lochar Harjo" (typescript). Includes articles of impeachment.
4. Letter of C. Schurz to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs re: the impeachment of Lochar Harjo, December 17, 1877 (typescript).
5. Message of Lochar Harjo to the Houses of Warriors and Kings (typescript). The typescript is dated October 8, 1879, eight months after Harjo died (he died on February 23, 1879). Also, Harjo was impeached in December of 1876, so it is likely that the actual date of the message is October 8, 1876.
