Transforming the Oklahoma Prairie a

Jacobson Hall was constructed in 1919 as the new library and later became the Museum of Art. The building was named Jacobson Hall in honor of Oscar Jacobson, first director of the School of Art. This 1924 hand-tinted photograph highlights the verdant shrubbery and vibrant flowers used to landscape the areas around Jacobson Hall.

Jacobson Hall is fondly referred to today as the “front door” of the University of Oklahoma because it houses the OU Visitor Center. The area in front of Jacobson Hall is known as the “Wing Garden,” which was renovated in 2003 to provide a beautiful welcoming space for new students and campus visitors. The garden features sycamores, roses, crape myrtles, hydrangeas, and herbaceous perennials. Colorful displays of annual flowers and bulbs change with the seasons.
