Western Electric Hawthorne papers are a series of original documents from studies conducted at the General Electric Company. The initial study involved changing factory lighting to improve productivity. Ultimately, the studies analyzed a variety of worker behaviors including diet, sleep patterns and other variables in working conditions.

District Court; an account book (1899); and a record book (1876) entitled Proceedings of the Court of Claims, Choctaw Nation, along with clippings (1896-1907) and published court documents (1900-1940) relating to Chickasaw and Choctaw Indian cases represented by the law firm of Mansfield, McMurray, and Cornish in U.S. courts.

The Western History Collections has more than two hundred manuscript collections about Native Americans. Most of these collections date from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, although some include earlier materials as well. The collections focus on Indian history in Oklahoma, Indian Territory, and the southwestern United States.

Farmer. A letter (1898), with typescript copies, by James M. Latty of Muskogee, Indian Territory, to his brother in Idaho, describing his intention to move west so that his children would receive a better education. Latty lived in the Creek Nation.

Housewife. Personal correspondence (1886-1892) with friends and family and reflecting her life as the wife of Basil LeFlore, a principal chief of the Choctaw Indians, along with expressions of condolence on the death of her husband.

Indian chief. Correspondence (1890-1916) to and from McCurtain regarding Choctaw Nation railroads, administrative matters, politics, Choctaw Indian claims against the United States, and the issue of separate statehood for Indian Territory, including letters from the chiefs of the other major Indian tribes in the territory; maps (1876-1908) of railroad rights-of-way and towns in the Choctaw Nation; publications (1896-1913) by political parties and citizens groups in the Choctaw Nation regarding political and judicial events and issues; publications (1892-1916) of the U.S. government regarding mineral rights of the Choctaw Nation and Indian Territory; and McCurtain's personal expense accounts (1902-1910).

Collector. Typescripts of articles (1895-1910) and poems (1901-1907) written by the Creek Indian poet Alex Posey. The articles include information on Posey's actions while he was a member of the Dawes Commission, the opposition to allotment by the Snake Clan of Creek Indians, and Creek Indian opposition to Oklahoma statehood.

Indian chief. Typescripts of newspaper articles (1887-1907) relating to Perryman as a principal chief of the Creek Nation, the Dawes Commission, Perryman's ouster from office in 1895, and his involvement with a plan for Creek Indians to emigrate to Mexico in 1905.

Indian chief. Correspondence (1824-1881) of Pitchlynn with prominent citizens and family members in the Choctaw Nation regarding events and troubles within the nation; Pitchlynn's personal journals (1815); Pitchlynn's diary (1828-1832); official reports (1825-1841) of the Choctaw Academy and Missionary Station in Kentucky; and Pitchlynn family records (1806-1867). The collection also includes a signed copy of the articles of surrender and peace negotiated between the Choctaw Nation and the United States at the close of the Civil War, and extensive correspondence reflecting the state of the Choctaw Nation just prior to, and during the Civil War years, with special regard to slavery.

U.S. Indian Service school. Ledgers (1915-1918) recording supplies used by the school, along with the number of teachers and students in attendance.

Collector. Minutes (1898-1902) of the city council of Sapulpa, Indian Territory; diaries (1915) of Evelyn Shumard; short manuscripts (n.d.) by Shumard entitled ""Outlaws,"" ""The Parade,"" The Spirit of Tulsa,"" ""My Life,"" and ""Oklahoma;"" scrapbooks (n.d.) by Marion, Alice, and Gordon Shumard on various topics including ""An Early History of Sapulpa,"" and memorabilia (n.d.) from schools attended by the Shumards. Sapulpa was in the Creek Nation before Oklahoma statehood.
