Book Description	Oliver Twist, or The Parish Boy's Progress, is the second novel written by Charles Dickens. The story is about the life of an orphan boy named Oliver Twist. His mother dies giving birth to him and his father is unknown so Oliver lives a miserable existence in a workhouse. He is then apprenticed to an undertaker but decides to run away after being mistreated there. He ends up on the street of London where he is befriended by a young thief commonly known as The Artful Dodger who takes him home with him to a criminal lair run by Fagin. Oliver is not well-suited to a life of crime being caught both times he attempts to participate in one. The people he meets through these two experiences ultimately lead to his being rescued from his miserable circumstances, the mystery of his parentage solved and living relatives are discovered, and ultimately being adopted by a kindly benefactor
