The Colonel and Mr. Brick are certain Mr. Brick is well known and that his writing had great influence in Europe. Young Martin Chuzzlewit finds this idea amazing. Mr. Brick is described as a small young gentleman with a pale complexion and with a pale mustache. He is married to "a sickly little girl with tight round eyes" and has two children

Book Description	Martin Chuzzlewit appeared in monthly parts, January 1843-July 1844, as Charles Dickens' sixth novel. The novel was not as successful as earlier novels, although Dickens thought it was best of his stories to that point. Dickens' 1842 trip to United States was the basis for the American portion of the novel. Dickens' negative view of America as a country full of vulgar, brash and boastful people lessened his popularity in the United States. The theme of Martin Chuzzlewit is selfishness and was written to demonstrate the eventual triumph of goodness. The elder Martin Chuzzlewit distrusted all his family and quarrels with younger Martin, his grandson. He adopts Mary Graham. After younger Martin travels to America, the older Chuzzlewit moves in with cousin Seth Pecksniff. The younger Martin becomes a better person as a result of his American hardships. On his return to England, he is reunited with his grandfather and marries Mary
