Book Description	Our Mutual Friend, Dickens' last novel, addresses the issues of money, social class, and human values. John Harmon, heir to his father's fortune made as a dust collector, pretends to be dead in order to find out what people thought about him. He takes a position as secretary to Mr. Boffin, the man who inherits his father's money in his stead, and becomes acquainted with his family as well as Bella Wilfer, the girl his father required him to marry in order to receive his inheritance. Gaffer Hexam is accused of murdering John Harmon, but is found dead. His son and daughter split up, the son becoming a school teacher and refusing to see his sister because she is still in poverty. The daughter, Lizzie, works for a dolls' dressmaker, where she meets and falls in love with the lawyer handling the inheritance of the Boffins. She, being of a lower class, believes she cannot marry him. She is also pursued by her brother's mentor, who wants to marry her. When her brother's mentor attempts to kill the lawyer, Eugene Wrayburn, Lizzie saves his life and they marry. Meanwhile, John Harmon falls in love with Bella Wilfer, and with the assistance of Mr. Boffin, who pretends to become a miser and be cruel to John, convinces Bella that she loves John and they get married, even though Bella believes that John is poor. When John is then arrested for his own murder, he reveals his true identity. The Boffins, who inherited the Harmon fortune, make John and Bella their legal heirs, and thus, John regains his inheritance
