Character Name	Stranger, The
Character Description	The Stranger arrives at the Peerybingle house as one of John's deliveries. He appears to be old and hard of hearing. When no one comes to pick him up, he rents a bed from Peerybingles. He is revealed to be Edward Plummer, who had arrived in disguise, to learn about May's state of mind concerning her engagement to Tackleton
Book Title - Featuring Character	Cricket on the Hearth, The
Book Description	In 1845, Dickens planned a periodical about home life called Cricket. The plan did not materialize, so he turned the idea into The Cricket on the Hearth, a book with a domestic setting. This was published as Dickens' third Christmas book by Bradbury and Evans. In The Cricket on the Hearth, Dickens developed a sentimental theme rather than a social theme. John and Mary (Dot) Peerybingle are a married couple with a wide difference in age. Their baby is tended by nurse Tilly Slowboy. Peerybingle's neighbors are Caleb Plummer and his blind daughter Bertha. Caleb deceives Bertha into believing that they are rich and that ill-tempered landlord and employer Tackleton is charming. May Fielding, another neighbor, is forced into an engagement with Tackleton, though she loves Edward Plummer, whose whereabouts is unknown. An old deaf stranger arrives to lodge at the Peerybingles. The time Mary spends with him causes John to think she is unfaithful, so he consults the Spirit of the Cricket on the Hearth. Bertha learns the truth of their circumstances. The stranger is revealed to be Edward Plummer and he and May reunite. Tackleton changes; all is well
